You are not too small

A national celebrity will not beat you in Houston food. They will not beat you in Orlando beauty. They will not beat you in a bilingual millennial house that already watches you cook on Tuesday.
Brands still open with follower count. That is last decade’s Hispanic plan. The work that converts is a specific room — origin, city, language, generation — and a creator who already belongs in it.
You are not too small. You are either in a room, or you are not. Size of the graph is a lazy proxy for that.
What “small” actually means
Nano is under ~10k. Micro is ~10k–100k. Those numbers are not a verdict. They are a description of how close the comments sit to a real life.
A celebrity endorsement is a press release with a face. A micro Hispanic creator is a cousin with a phone. The cousin gets the save, the recipe, the code. The celebrity gets the awareness slide.
When a brand says they want “reach,” ask: reach of what. A million people who do not cook that food is not reach. Eighteen thousand people who already make that soup on Sunday is.
Why the smaller account wins the room
Replies, completion, saves. The algorithm pays for conversation. If you answer in the language the house actually uses, the platform keeps showing you to the next house like it.
A food creator in Houston can own a DMA a national face will never touch. Lunch-break For You. The car line. The group chat. That is distribution you cannot buy with a Super Bowl buy.
Proof we have seen, over and over: the comment section looks like buying. “What store.” “Is it spicy.” “My tía needs this.” That is a report a CMO can defend. A celebrity’s 2% like rate on a translated script is not.
What to put on the kit instead of the follower line
Lead with the room, not the count.
- City or DMA you actually live in
- Languages you shoot in
- Who comments (age, first-gen / second-gen if you know)
- One outcome: save rate, a sold-out link, a code that got used
Then the follower number, in a smaller line. If the first line is “142k,” you taught them to shop you as a billboard.
If a brand only wants the famous one
Let them. That is a different product. We still match micros for the rooms that convert. You do not have to fake a larger graph. You have to name the room and show it working.
If you apply here, we will not reject you for being “too small.” We will reject a shrug: no city, no niche, no proof. Quality of the room is the product. Package that.
